Rae Flores is a painter and poet based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. She is a senior at the University of North Texas, where she majors in drawing and painting and minors in English and art history. Within her artwork, she explores and subverts themes of femininity, nostalgia, and surrealism through the use of her formative pink color palette. Simultaneously, Rae challenges the traditional fine art space by incorporating illustrative techniques into her paintings.
Rae’s painting and poetry practices inform each other; in both her visual art and creative writing, she focuses on finding comfort in the bittersweet, contrasting whimsical and dreamlike imagery against taboo subject matter such as women's health, bodily autonomy, religious deconversion, and growing up.
Rae’s paintings have been included in exhibitions at The Eclectika at 711 (Irving, TX), 500X Gallery (Dallas, TX), and the School of Visual Arts (New York, NY), among others. Her poetry has been published in The 2River View and North Texas Review, among others. Currently, she is working towards her first solo exhibition and writing her debut poetry chapbook. Rae is also a member of Out of the Dollhouse, a private artist collective in Denton, TX.
